12/13/2017 19:28 Leah Hinds: Please enter questions here or use the "Ask the Presenter a Question" link
12/13/2017 19:28 Laura McShane: What are some techniques you recommend for discussing misinformation in the classroom with students?
12/13/2017 19:29 Laura McShane: Meaning examples of good topics
12/13/2017 19:29 Margot Malachowski: What are your thoughts on libraries purchasing "questionable" books? Your example was donations, but what about collection development?
12/13/2017 19:30 Susan Beck: You mentioned the "equality on the shelf" in libraries, whereby books added to library collections lack context re: why they were selected. Do you have examples of libraries adding that context?
12/13/2017 19:30 Patricia Lovett: Excellent points about the algorithms skewing what people see. another problem is the abbreviated space/character length of messages--very difficult to convey context in twitter, blog posts, and other short communications.
12/13/2017 19:30 Robert Hudson: will the filter bubble problem become worse if net neutrality goes away?
12/13/2017 19:31 Laura McShane: thanks!
12/13/2017 19:32 Margot Malachowski: thanks!
12/13/2017 19:34 Beth Auten: I would be interested to hear more about your work with misinformation about vaccines. Do you research online communities that choose not to vaccinate or use alternate vaccine schedules just to investigate how they access and use information? Is it intended to address misinformation in those communities as well?
12/13/2017 19:35 William Jacobs: People often decide that fact checking sites that tell them things they don't want to hear are biased and then find alternatives that tell them what they want to hear instead. This is a meta-level where defining what information is problematic becomes problematic. Any thoughts on dealing with this?
12/13/2017 19:38 Robin Sinn: How do we convince people to spend the time for this sort of evaluation? Faculty won't even do this to avoid predatory journals. I have little hope for the general public and students.
12/13/2017 19:42 (Private to Presenters) - Korey Brunetti: How do we educate comp science/engineering students that these systems often reflect their own tacit assumptions? Is that a 50,000 question?
12/13/2017 19:44 Patricia Lovett: Thank you, great presentation and topic!
12/13/2017 19:45 Anna White: Yes, thank you, Sami!
12/13/2017 19:45 Melissa Nasea: What books did you recommend?
12/13/2017 19:45 Michell Brewer: thank you excellent talk, great examples
12/13/2017 19:45 Robin Sinn: How can the Open Scholarshi mvmt avoid looking like misinformation?
12/13/2017 19:45 Lisa Errico: Thank you for your presentation on this very important topic!
12/13/2017 19:45 Katherine Miles: Thank you.
12/13/2017 19:45 Robin Sinn: Great presentation. Thanks!
12/13/2017 19:45 (Private to Presenters) - Korey Brunetti: Thank you!

12/13/2017 19:46 Earleen Warner: Thank you! Great webinar!
12/13/2017 19:46 Brenda Kerwin: Interesting topic, thank you!
12/13/2017 19:46 William Jacobs: I'm not sure completely avoiding author intent is the best approach. Getting students to think about why their source is tell them what they're telling you often can spark useful discussions. Could you talk more about your approach that avoids this aspect?
12/13/2017 19:47 Marty Miller: Thanks for all of the great information!
12/13/2017 19:48 Michell Brewer: we may need new standards for meta data tags to help with context, intent
12/13/2017 19:49 Robin Sinn: who creating that truth spectrum?
12/13/2017 19:49 Melissa Nasea: Google - what was the 2nd word in that phrase?
12/13/2017 19:49 Michell Brewer: NISO Todd Carpenter!
12/13/2017 19:49 Melissa Nasea: Was it Google sources?
12/13/2017 19:50 Melissa Nasea: Thanks
12/13/2017 19:50 Courtney Bartlett: Thank you!
